In vSphere 5.5 you will not be able to extend the NSX controller disk while upgrading the NSX infra using vSphere client and Web Client aswell as it will not allow you to save the configuration after extending the disk using vCenter.
This can be achieved using below steps:
Check the ESXi Host name which NSX controller is hosted.
Power off the NSX controller.
Connect the ESXi host directly using vSphere Client.
Extend the disk and it will throw you error however the configuration will be saved and you will be able to use the new space after powering on the controller.
